Jald and Shol are the elders of a clan, the Wolf Band, when the glaciers begin to melt and alter the lives of their people. Pandora’s box is opened, and from it a pestilence emerges to afflict them. They must guide their people through the turmoil and trauma that follows. They devise new and valiant ways to try to save their people. Jald lays a charge on their son, Daine, to pass on the memories of their clan to his progeny so they can carry on the struggle. From the Wolf Band came the suffering and the Wolf Band must rid the world of it. The Paleolithic people are too weak to stop it and the pestilence spreads. The efforts of Jald and Shol have planted the seeds of civilization and the land is awash in blood and battle and misery. In the present... The professor, his wife and acolyte Marty, and her other husband Derek, carry the memories within them. Atavistic memories of ancestors have been repressed through the millennia and purposely submerged into the subconscious. The professor hears the call of his Wolf Band ancestors and, through a lifetime of self instruction, learns how to access these hidden memories. He must convince Marty and Derek of the reality of ancestral memory, of how it works, and how to access their own. He fears that the pestilence threatens to rise full force to engulf the world once again and it is the responsibility of the three of them to confront it.
